Tourist shoots Markhor in Chitral, FIR registered

PESHAWAR: An endangered Markhor was shot at and injured by a tourist in the scenic valley of Chitral, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

Officials of the KP wildlife department relayed that the animal fell into a river near the Garam Chasma road after being hit by a bullet. It was rescued from the river after hectic efforts, they added.

Taking to Twitter, KP MPA Faisal Amin Khan said a first information report (FIR) has been registered at the Chitral police station against the culprits and all-out efforts will be made to nab them.

He was replying to a tweet that shared a social media user’s post which read: “Today, I was at “Shahr e Sham” Chitral with our guests to see the beautiful and innocent Markhors come down to river every afternoon.”

“While coming back, we came across this painful scene of firing a Markhor.. Two local boys were there, they told us that tourists from down district in a corolla shot down this Markhor while [it was] drinking water.”

Australia inflation edges up but still below target

SYDNEY: Australian inflation ticked higher in the final quarter of 2019 but core measures remained subdued despite three interest rate cuts, suggesting the country’s central bank will have to do more to revive consumer prices. The consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.7% in the December quarter, higher than forecasts of a 0.6% increase, driven by gains in cigarettes, domestic holidays, travel, fuel and fruit prices. The annual pace rose to 1.8%, still below the floor of the Reserve Bank of Australia’s (RBA) 2-3% target band. Indeed, a key measure of core inflation was stuck at an even slower 1.6% marking four straight years below target. This persistent weakness was one reason the RBA cut interest rates three times last year to an all time low of 1.75%, and why markets are still pricing in at least one more easing. British author accuses Meghan Markle of ‘buying her own book’ in thousands

Meghan Markle’s debut children’s book has come under scrutiny once again, this time by British author Lady Colin Campbell, who has alleged that Markle bought thousands of copies of her own book to boost sales, reported Express UK. Lady C is the latest among thousands of online naysayers to slam the Duchess of Sussex’s first children’s book  The Bench – it was earlier accused of being plagiarised – a claim dismissed by the author whose book it was compared to.
