FAISALABAD:  The Airport Security Force (ASF) on Saturday seized bullets from an Sharjah-bound passenger’s luggage at the Faisalabad Airport, ARY News reported, citing sources. According to ASF officials, six bullets were found in the luggage of a passenger namely Sajid, during checking at the airport. He was handed over to the police for further investigation into the matter. BEIJING/SHANGHAI: The total number of deaths from a coronavirus epidemic in China had reached 259 by the end of Friday, an increase of 46, state broadcaster CCTV said, citing numbers from the country’s National Health Commission. There were 2,102 new confirmed infections in China during the day, bringing the cumulative total to 11,791. The local health commission of Hubei Province, the epicenter of the epidemic, earlier on Saturday reported 45 new deaths from the outbreak on Friday, bringing the total to 249. The province has confirmed 1,347 new cases of infection on Friday, with the total reaching 7,153 by the end of the day. SYDNEY: Australian inflation ticked higher in the final quarter of 2019 but core measures remained subdued despite three interest rate cuts, suggesting the country’s central bank will have to do more to revive consumer prices. The consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.7% in the December quarter, higher than forecasts of a 0.6% increase, driven by gains in cigarettes, domestic holidays, travel, fuel and fruit prices. BEIJING: A drug store in Beijing will be fined 3 million yuan ($434,530) for hiking the price of face masks by almost six times the online price amid the coronavirus outbreak, the Beijing municipal market regulator said on Wednesday. The regulator has issued a notice of administrative penalty to Beijing Jimin Kangtai Pharmacy for sharply raising the price of N95 masks, it said in a statement on its website. Jimin Kangtai raised the price of 3M brand masks to 850 yuan per box, while the price of the same type of masks sold online was 143 yuan per box, state television said. The Beijing municipal regulator has stepped up supervision on prices of epidemic protective equipments and punished illegal activities such as hoarding or fabricating information about price hikes. LAKKI MARWAT: Four suspected absconders including a woman were shot dead in an alleged encounter with police in Lakki Marwat’s area of Pahar Khel Paka, ARY News reported on Tuesday. According to the police, the suspects were killed in an exchange of fire with the police party. Two policemen also got injured in the act. GHAZNI: A US military jet crashed in mountainous territory in eastern Afghanistan, where there is a heavy Taliban presence, the Pentagon confirmed Monday, rejecting the insurgents´ suggestions that it was shot down. Afghanistan US Forces spokesman Colonel Sonny Leggett confirmed in a statement that the aircraft was a US Bombardier E-11A, a type of jet used as a military airborne communications node in the region. “While the cause of crash is under investigation, there are no indications the crash was caused by enemy fire,” Leggett said. Leggett gave no information on casualties in the crash. LAHORE: At least eight persons, including a woman and two children, were killed when fire erupted after a cylinder exploded at a spray factory situated in Shahdira, Lahore, ARY News reported on Tuesday. According to the rescue sources, the roof of the factory caved-in due to intensity of the fire that took over the entire factory situated in Imamia colony of Shahdira. At least 10 fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and brought the fire under control after a hectic effort.
